Students of TSOM and NCT’s hospitality and tourism (H&T) programs had the unique opportunity to learn about global best practices in sustainable tourism, featuring insights from Brazil and UN Tourism.
The inaugural TSOM Hospitality and Tourism Sustainability Workshop Series brought together distinguished delegates from the Brazilian Consulate of Toronto, Embratur (Brazilian Tourist Board) and UN Tourism. These experts delivered insightful presentations on Brazil’s tourism sustainability efforts and the global frameworks shaping sustainable tourism.
The session began with an inspiring welcome from Alexandre Piana Lemos, Deputy Consul General of the Brazilian Consulate of Toronto and Nisha Naug, Associate Dean at TSOM. Delegates Alisson Braga de Andrade, Head of International Markets and Andre Albi Netto, Market Executive of the Department of Global Marketing, Business, and Sustainability at Embratur, captivated the audience with a virtual tour of Brazil’s extraordinary tourism offerings and commitment to sustainability. Paula De Blas Gonzales, Senior Education Specialist at UN Tourism’s Department of Innovation, Education and Investments, shared the organization’s mission to foster sustainable tourism worldwide through education, collaboration, and global engagement.
Following the presentations, students worked in groups to apply their new knowledge to sustainability scenarios in hospitality and tourism business contexts. Their innovative ideas received positive feedback and actionable insights from the panelists, who commended the quality and creativity of their work.
This engaging workshop provided students with exclusive insights into this dynamic industry.
Special thanks to our faculty member, Dr. Rasmi Kokash, the TSOM and NCT support team for organizing this event, and the distinguished delegates of the Brazilian General Consulate of Toronto, Embratur, and UN Tourism for their time and invaluable contribution.
