Are you an international student starting your post-secondary studies in Canada? If so, we have some great news for you!
You’ll be thrilled to hear that the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) just announced that if a fully completed study permit application is received by May 15, 2021, a decision will be made by August 6, 2021.
This gives you, the student, plenty of time to prepare for next steps in order to attend this upcoming fall semester.
If you’re unable to submit a fully completed application because of COVID-19 restrictions, such as reduced services at visa application centres (VAC) and other providers, then the IRCC may not be able to process their application by the decision date.
If students submit a completed application after May 15, 2021, the IRCC will process it as quickly as possible — but they may not get a guaranteed final decision before the fall semester begins.

Apply Online
An easier way to process your application is to apply for study permits online.
Online study permit applications are instantly received by the IRCC with the potential for quicker processing. It also decreases your chances of having to re-submit your application, as applications are checked for completion prior to submission.
Online applicants will also benefit from real-time status updates on their study permit applications, with the ability to submit any additional supporting documentation instantly on request.
